Discovering Your Inner Chi
A Beginner’s Guide to Setting Your Vitality Force Straight
Few of us have never had a bad day - a day where everything seems to be going wrong and we feel disconnected from reality. We try to seek solace in these moments by consuming pleasing foods or staying busy when we really should be turning to introspection. Distractions are simply bandages for a deeper wound that, if left untreated, could fester into a difficult problem to solve. Luckily, staying in touch with our inner Chi can prevent imbalance and lead to a happier, healthier life. How does one achieve this awareness?
Feel Your Energy
There are many ways to experience the sensations that your body’s energy will create; however, the most common methods are through yoga, meditation, reiki, taichi, massage, and qigong. If you aren’t familiar with these practices, take some time on one of your days off to explore the different options - there are some amazing teachers and recordings on YouTube that can help you do these exercises properly!
As you are sitting, lying down, or gently moving through your exercise, intently focus on the physical and emotional sensations that you are feeling. Many people describe their inner energy as being a tingling sensation that begins in the fingers or toes. Some people experience balanced Chi as an absence of heightened emotion-suggesting they are truly at peace. There is no right or wrong way to experience this inner energy, so let your discovery develop at its own pace and try not to force anything.
Stay In Touch
“Our body is a sacred temple, a place to connect with people.
As we aren’t staying any younger, we might as well keep it stronger”
- Ana Claudia Antunes
Once you have discovered your inner Chi, it is very important to stay in regular communication and communion with it! Think of this energy as being central to your moods, health, wellness, motivation, patience… etc. It is imperative that you keep this part of your physical and spiritual body in good health. Whichever method works best for you, keep it up! Perhaps you’d like to meditate 40 minutes per day-once in the morning and once at night. If massage is your cup of tea, schedule your sessions a month in advance to make that time for yourself.
Nurturing your inner chi is much like a self-care ritual; you must make time for it so that you can stay in balance. You’ll know when you start to become unbalanced - you’ll begin to feel sluggish, unmotivated, irritable, and the like. Take note of how your body feels when you begin to fall out of balance and aim to refocus and rest before this happens in the next couple of days.
You Deserve Better
So much in this life pulls at our physical and spiritual bodies that it’s hard to distinguish the common denominator. It may help you to keep a separate journal or log to stay in touch with your Chi; ask “what is causing distress to my inner energy?” and “what helps me balance everything out again?” Take the time to develop new habits and set the record straight; you deserve to feel balanced and whole!
Now take a step towards inner healing and discover your own energy; it’s been waiting for you to connect for a long time.
